Job Fair

What is the Job Fair?
Job Fair is the currently established transfer policy for regularly employed teachers to transfer from one school to another or transfer from one certificate area to another.

Who is eligible to attend the Job Fair?
Any regularly employed teacher who has filed a Request for Transfer with the office of Human Resources. The only exception is a teacher who is on layoff at the time of the Job Fair.

How do I request to attend the Job Fair?
Teachers who wish to attend the Job Fair must file a Request for Transfer, in person, at the office of Human Resources.

When can I fill out a Request for Transfer?
Requests to attend the Job Fair may be filled out anytime between Orientation Day and the close of business on May 15. There are no exceptions.

If I receive a layoff notice in February, may I sign up for the Job Fair?
Yes. Any regularly employed teacher, whether or not he/she has received a layoff notice may file a Request for Transfer before the May 15 deadline. However, eligibility to attend the Job Fair will depend on whether or not the teacher's layoff notice is rescinded. For more information on layoffs, see the Layoff section that appears in the Frequently Asked Questions section.

When is the Job Fair held?
The annual Job Fair is held on the seventh (7th) business day after July 4th during odd numbered years and on the fifth (5th) business day after July 4th during even numbered years.

How do I select a new position at the Job Fair?
Teachers who register to attend the Job Fair will receive a bid card. Positions are awarded to the teacher with the most seniority, as determined by his/her date of hire as a regularly employed teacher, who bids on the position.

What does the number on my bid card represent?
Each teacher who registers to attend the Job Fair is ranked by seniority (date of hire as a regularly employed teacher). Teachers are then assigned a number based on their disctritwide seniority - No. 1 being the most senior.

How many positions may I bid on?
Participants may successfully bid on one position in each certificate area.

What happens to my current position if I successfully bid on a new position?
Your assignment will be added to the list of positions available for bidding at that particular certification cycle.

How will I know which positions will be available at the Job Fair?
Teachers eligible to attend the Job Fair will receive a list of positions that will be offered at the Job Fair. However, as participants successfully bid on new positions and relinquish their former positions, these former positions will be included at the end of the bidding cycle for each certificate area.

Do I have to bid on a position at the Job Fair?
It depends. First year teachers (other than teachers selected at an interview school) must attend and select an assignment at the Job Fair. However, teachers who voluntarily participate at the Job Fair may attend and not bid on a new position.

What if I want to transfer but I am unable to attend the Job Fair?
A teacher unable to attend the Job Fair may, in writing, designate a proxy. Said proxy shall have full authority to act on the teacher's behalf, and the decision of the proxy shall be binding upon the teacher and the School Board.
