Professional Development Program.

What is the Providence Teachers Union Professional
Development Program?
The Providence Teachers Union offers a variety of professional development
for our members. All programs are at no cost to our members and are based upon the American Federation of Teachers Educational
Research and Dissemination Program. The programs are grounded in sound research in that they have been used over a number of
years, some more than eighteen years, by teachers across the United States in diverse school settings with diverse student bodies.
Teachers who have used these programs have improved their professional practice as well as increased their students' achievement.
To put it simply, but importantly, they are programs that work.

Is there a mentor program for Providence teachers?
The Union, under the direction of Fr. Nick Milas, runs the Providence Teachers Union Mentor Program.
Its broad design allows for individualized support for both new teachers and veteran teachers, K-12, including regular education,
special education, ESL and bilingual teachers. Teacher who joins this program may attend some professional development workshops
offered by the Union. In addition, each teacher in the program is assigned a mentor. The teacher and his/her mentor work together on
various concerns. The program is voluntary and confidential.
