Providence Teachers Union 6 November 2003, Thursday Lauro School Visit Union President Smith will visit Carl Lauro Elementary at 10:45 a.m. Beginning Reading Time: 3:30pm - 7:30pm Location: Union Office 32 hours w/ 2 CEU's Thursdays This workshop focuses on how children learn to read and the best ways to teach beginning reading. It contains considerable information on how students develop basic decoding skills and has been useful for teachers and paraprofessionals working with older students who are still having difficulty with decoding and fluency. Classrooms that Work Time: 3:30pm - 5:30pm Location: Union Office Thursdays--30 Hours w/ 2 CEU's This workshop presents proven practices from research on effective classroom and group management, effective use of learning time, questioning and feedback skills, homework assignments, and interactive direct instruction strategies. Participants will learn strategies to reduce and/or prevent the occurrence of disruptive or dangerous outbreaks. Early Reading Intervention Time: 3:30pm - 5:30pm Location: Union Office 30 hours w/ 2 CEU's Tuesdays and Thursdays This course is designed for teachers who work with students who are at risk for reading failure.
